This shows the process of laying our Sedum Component green roof system. All our other systems are precultivated and laying is much simpler with steps 2, 4 and 5 combined in a single precultivated mat. Our systems can be self-installed, or we offer a full service from survey through to completion.

1. Waterproofing
Once the roof is checked for any leaks and susceptibility to plant root, a waterproofing system is fitted. Only our specialist installers will come and fit this waterproof barrier.

  2. Urban Lifemat
Vegetation mats are laid quickly and easily directly onto the waterproofing. Made from recycled cfc-soft foam, they are immediately ready to function as reservoirs of water and nutrients.

  3. Aggregate substrate
4cm of this highly porous, high performance substrate is laid directly onto the Urban Lifemat. This special aggregate is made from crushed recycled brick, dried clay, pumice and a selection of other organic materials. It provides sufficient nutrients to give the plants ideal growing conditions. The aggregate has a minimum 75% recycled content.
  4. Sedum sprouts
They arrive as a fully grown system or as a ready to sow mixture that can be sown at any time of the year. These fast growing succulents will be established after two months and become a dense mass of flowers by the next growing season.
